DD Bird is pretty awesome at the iPad - but for some reason, she just can't figure out how to use our shared family iCal calendar. Jeeze.
But she really perseverates on things like when she gets to stay home with me, when does she get to sleep in the big bed, when does she go to school. Not knowing what is happening seems to cause her a little distress.
On top of it, her birthday is coming up in a week. YAK! Goodbye two, hello three.
So over breakfast yesterday, I drew her out a little calendar. Yes, I typically happen to have rolls of white paper taped across the tables, in case anyone gets struck with inspiration. But I've done this before on plain ole scrap paper too, and she loves it.
It's a very simple thing, and I suppose I could buy one of those magnetic ones, but she loves that I draw the stick people and she instructs me about what everyone's hair should look like. Now, when she starts the incessant question asking, I just say, "Go tell Mommy what's on the calendar". She tells me, "Stay home with Mommy day. Then adventure day and nap in the big bed. Then butterfly school [then she races through all the butterfly school days]... Then my BIRTHDAY! and my BIRTHDAY PARTY!"
It feels nice to empower her to know what her days look like. It also feels much much much better than a I also think it's helping her understand that every time she wakes up for a nap, it's not a new day. Although I do like the idea of having 365x2 days in the year... maybe she's on to something.
