Yesterday, I dropped DD off at her old day care because we were in the area and they still welcome her when we're around. To hear her talk about it, you'd think it's Xanadu. She was like, "Mama, I'll show you around the place for 5 minutes - that's a long long time - and then you can drop me off". And so it was.
Today... oh today. "Pick me uuuuuuuup! I want to stay home with moooooommmmmmeeeeeeee". Lordy Lordy. Finally these words came to me: "Honey, what do you need to feel safe?"
OK. Picked her up, carried her around the place. Eased her into circle time. Gradually faded the distance.
Wasn't easy, but we made it.
My point is, the transition was no easier for her because I asked her what she needs to feel safe.
But I was a lot less loony.
